Your First Visit

What to expect when you bring your child to Smiles For Kids.

Welcome to Our Office!

We take it slow and make your child's first visit a positive, fun experience. Here's what you can expect:

  • A guided tour of our colorful, kid-friendly office
  • Getting to know your child and reviewing medical history
  • A gentle demonstration of dental instruments in a fun way
  • A comprehensive dental exam by Dr. Sharma
  • Professional cleaning and fluoride treatment
  • Digital x-rays if needed
  • A goody bag with toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, stickers, and a special reward!

When Should My Child First Visit?

Along with the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, we recommend scheduling your child's first dental visit by their first birthday. The earlier the dental visit, the better the chances of preventing dental problems. Early visits help establish a rapport and set the foundation for a lifetime of healthy smiles.

How to Prepare Your Child

Prepare your child for the first visit the way you would for a first haircut or trip to a new place. Keep it positive and simple. If you're nervous, the less you say the better — children sense anxiety! Avoid words like "needle," "shot," "drill," or "hurt." Our team explains everything in a fun, pleasant way.

We send an activity/coloring book before the appointment to get your child excited about their visit.
